Fired Up San Clemente

Clay Exploration has become a popular class at Fired Up. We now have 2 wheels and the students are free to create while they await their turn on the potters wheel. Above are a handful of my favorites that were made this summer. Technique is shown to the students and then it is their choice what direction to take the techniques. We have too many guided activities in this world so my philosophy is to provide the tools and materials and then set the artists loose! For those who need added direction I have a couple of my favorite books for ideas or we just have a little chat and get their ideas flowing. The next Clay Exploration class begins Tuesdays September 21-October 5th from 3:00-4:30 pm. If this time does not fit your schedule let me know and we can plan a private session or find a couple friends and we can form a new class! Fired Up has added a Mosaic clay class this summer starting on Wednesday August 11th. Our first meeting will be 11:00am-1:00pm at our beautiful Ole Hansen home studio.  Your child will design, roll & cut their clay, paint, glaze, and adhere their creation to a wood keepsake box. What an awesome way to spend the end of the summer! Fired Up has all the supplies necessary, all we need are interested artists who want to learn a new task and have some clay FUN! Wednesday July 28 at 10:00am your child can join Fired Up’s potters wheel and hand building clay class.  Beginning and Experienced artists are welcome to join. Please call and register today 949-498-3929.  It will be 3 weeks of creative FUN this summer. If this looks interesting and you are an adult, we can schedule a private session or a small class of your friends and/or mine!

Kids need activity and Fired UP has just the answer…Clay Classes!  I am offering four different clay classes this summer: Beginning Hand Building, Potters Wheel and Hand Building, Mold Pouring, and Mosaic Design.  Class time is from 10 am to 12 pm Monday thru Friday (sans Thursday) once a week for 3 weeks per session.  They will be held at our ceramic studio, in the backyard and the carriage house.  Have your child wear sunscreen and hats if they are sensitive to the sun, but rest assured we will be providing shade with our new pop ups!  The enclosed backyard has picnic tables, chalk & bubbles, and beautiful plants to make your children feel at home.  Call or email if you would like to register your child for any of the above classes. Better than a movie where the mouths are closed and the room is dark…Come paint ceramics with your child and learn some things you never knew!  Believe me when I say kids say the darndest things when they paint.  After five years of teaching clay classes I have heard things that made me giggle, cringe, and really wonder what else they can be thinking!!! Our house is cozy and the conversations take on a life of their own!  These ladies above have been back for progress sessions and new piece selections and have enjoyed every minute of it.  They had girlfriends join them and come alone for that mommy & me connection time!  Fired Up tries to make you feel like the King/Queen of the House when you enter our studio.  We want regulars who can help themselves and add to our Fired Up Family!  Check out our clay class choices for the summer planning and if one looks FUN for you adults out there in cyber land PLEASE contact me and we can form a class with your BEST girls/guys and get dirty with clay!  The dirtier the better or so I hear! tee hee

For the FIRST time in Fired UP history we are moving into a MOSAIC direction! This summer we have scheduled our first mosaic tile clay class.  The above creation was my first attempt and the finished product if I do say so myself is pretty AWESOME!!!  It was a difficult task for me to wrap my brain around…design, cut, and then cut into pieces???  I thought my brain was going to hemmorage!  But alas, I trusted my teacher and went with it and man am I glad I did!!!  What MESSY creative fun!  If you know a hand full of interested artists and would like to form your own Mosaic Class, feel free to call and schedule a time with me 949-498-3929.  Every home should have a handmade paving stone to greet their guests, come into Fired Up and step into your first creation experience!

Signed my son and a friend up for my Mothers Day Gift Class and look at the Beautiful Handmade Ceramic pot he made for me!  THANK you Justin, you ROCK!!!  If you missed the class, sign your kids up for the Fathers Day Gift Class on Tuesday May 18th & 25th at 4pm until 5 pm.  Brief instruction will be demonstrated and then the  artists get to work.  All the while I encourage them to be thinking of their parent or grandparent and all they do for them everyday.  How’s that for a little parental boasting!!!  During the second class the kids will paint their masterpiece.  Fired UP will glaze and fire it and your gift is done EARLY for Fathers Day!!!  Call Sarah for registration 949-498-3929.  Yay for Clay!

These little ladies have been working with clay at Fired Up for years, okay maybe months, but for some time now!  Look guys no Mommy hands!!!  They rolled their clay and are cutting their shapes out of clay.  3 and 4 year old little girls can do it, imagine what yours would look like Adults out there!  Create a wind chime or mobile for the wall…the possibilities are endless at Fired Up! Like I tell every-boodie that asks for help & ideas…I am FULL of it!!!!  Come on in and see what you can do at Fired UP, I have ALL the confidence in the world in your abilities!

Here is an example of an “A” student’s work from a GATE program at a Laguna Niguel Middle School.  Their teachers sent students into the world to find Medieval related activities.  They were required to sign up for a course and learn a new task from an ancient time!  Fired Up provides clay instruction and all the tools and supplies necessary to complete a clay piece or more from scratch.  Please inquire if you have a small group of children and/or adults that would be interested in hand building with clay.  Another Birthday idea…invite four or five close friends and have a potters wheel session!  Bring a cooler with drinks and snacks and cake, while enjoying our Ole Hanson backyard garden with native plants and gnomes to keep you company!  See you soon

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day clay class SIGN up now!  Participants will design and create a gift for their parents out of clay the first week of class.  Then in their second session they will paint their masterpiece.  Fired UP will glaze and fire all gifts and they will be ready for pick up within a week.  Invite a friend or make a new one!!  Classes are $40 for two- 1 hour classes.  Check out the Classes page on my website for dates and times.  Above are a few of my regular students…Are You Fired Up???
