It doesn’t happen often that a young person comes along and blows my artistic mind. She is barely 20 years of age on this earth and yet capable of this mastery…speechless…and we at Fired Up were fortunate enough to see her work and create the above set. Ariel, you are AMAZING and TALENTED and I thank you for spending your summer at Fired Up! I am willing to give discounts on sets of dishes if you wish, just ask. Makayla and her Grandma created a souvenir Dolphin statue at Fired Up San Clemente on their trip to California from New York. Didn’t they do a FABulous job?! These lovely Grand-Mama’s have been getting the girls (their granddaughters) together once a year for an adventure. It began with visiting national parks, hence the name of the group McGilchrist Shores National Park. And lucky for Me they decided to explore local. We had the pleasure of painting with them last summer…look up my Blog from then and you can see how they have grown! Clay Exploration has become a popular class at Fired Up. We now have 2 wheels and the students are free to create while they await their turn on the potters wheel. Above are a handful of my favorites that were made this summer. Technique is shown to the students and then it is their choice what direction to take the techniques. We have too many guided activities in this world so my philosophy is to provide the tools and materials and then set the artists loose! For those who need added direction I have a couple of my favorite books for ideas or we just have a little chat and get their ideas flowing. The next Clay Exploration class begins Tuesdays September 21-October 5th from 3:00-4:30 pm. If this time does not fit your schedule let me know and we can plan a private session or find a couple friends and we can form a new class! I love clay and I love teaching so any additions I can make to my calendar, the better! Have an awesome day and hope we get to play with clay real soon!!!

This is an exciting day for me because ever since I started working at Fired Up I have wanted clay to be a major part of the ceramic process. Bringing the earth to hands and creating and molding is great for motor development and art therapy.  This ALL age activity is soothing and empowering.
